Really the outcome and information that is generated by multistakeholder coalitions contribute to information rich society in my country-Nigeria.
Example, the legislative advocacy coalition on violence against women (LACVAW) proposers of the Bill on violence against women (VAW) have recorded tremendous success towards the realization of the legislation aimed at prohibiting, protecting and preventing all forms of violence against women in Nigeria.
Activities have been organized and executed by Women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative, (WRAPA) and other LACVAW members towards publicizing the Bill. WRAPA has organized and conducted public education sessions and advocacy training in some states and Local Government Areas in Nigeria to pre-test draft advocacy training aimed at mobilizing the grassroots on the issues of VAW.
In conclusion, the above example therefore is a clear indication that, the outcome and information generated by multistakeholder coalitions in Nigeria, contribute to an information rich society. The efforts of WRAPA has put information into the public and have brought to the attention of parliament the mountain of problems of women in Nigeria and the need for legislative solution with a view to bringing about desired changes in the status of women in the country.

All I can add is that the multi-stakeholder coalitions brought out information to the general public , where Parliament always team up the civil society in the monitoring the implementation of the Access to Information Act. The Civil Society presented a petition to the Speaker of Parliament urging him to prevail on the Executive to fast track the implementation of the Act. This symbolizes their commitment to the Act and proof that they can be allies in building an informed public.

Sometime last year, the Citizens fro Just Action, a coalition of individuals devoted to the protection of democracy in Ghana, held a news conference at which they called on the government to investigate allegations of irregularity in the management of the National School Feeding Programme. The coalition provided some information to back its claim of corruption inthe running of the programme. This generated a lotof debate in the media , in Parrliament and other fora. Even thought the government under then President Kufuor did not come out with any reactions on the matter, the Chief Executive of the Prograame, known to be a close associate of the President was axed.

MULTISTAKEHOLDER COALITIONS AND INFORMATION WEALTH

Multistakeholder coalitions are very active in Nigeria but the commensurate results of their activities are yet to be seen. For example, in the fight against corruption, except for the recent conviction of the PDP stalwart in the person Olabode George the general consensus opinion is that the fight against corruption is dead. With the general call for the resignation of the Attorney General of the Federation by ant corruption coalitions the man is still firmly seated and doing same abominable activities. Information wealth that has not succeeded in yielding the desired result may not be wealth at all.
